A plucky young girl learns that she is loved – by her father, and by God the Father—in this picture book retelling of the Christmas story. Ages 4 to 7.

Author Juliann Henry wrote the book in order to engage girls with God’s story. She told Novel Journey online that when she read Bible stories as a child, it always bothered her that men were mentioned far more than women. Her mother advised her to imagine herself in the stories. The Little Shepherd, Henry’s first published book, is an example of that.

Henry is a Methodist pastor and chaplain at a psychiatric hospital in New Jersey. She earned a degree in literature from Rutgers University and a Master of Divinity from Palmer Theological Seminary (formerly Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary). She’s felt a specific calling to minister to those who are marginalized by society and the Church.

A wife and mother of three living in New Jersey, Henry rescues stray animals, gardens and writes stories for children in her spare time.
