45 Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family

51 These are those who were numbered of
the sons of Israel, 601,730.
52 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
53 "Among these the land shall be divided for
an inheritance according to the number of
names.
54 "To the larger group you shall increase
their inheritance, and to the smaller group you
shall diminish their inheritance; each shall be
given their inheritance according to those who
were numbered of them.
55 "But the land shall be divided by lot. They
shall receive their inheritance according to the
names of the tribes of their fathers.
56 "According to the selection by lot, their
inheritance shall be divided between the larger

57 These are those who were numbered of

the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in
Egypt; and she bore to Amram: Aaron and Moses
and their sister Miriam.
60 To Aaron were born Nadab and Abihu,
Eleazar and Ithamar.
61 But Nadab and Abihu died when they offered
strange fire before the Lord.
62 Those who were numbered of them were
23,000, every male from a month old and upward,
for they were not numbered among the
sons of Israel since no inheritance was given to
them among the sons of Israel.
63 These are those who were numbered by
Moses and Eleazar the priest, who numbered
the sons of Israel in the plains of Moab by the
Jordan at Jericho.
64 But among these there was not a man of
those who were numbered by Moses and Aaron
the priest, who numbered the sons of Israel in
the wilderness of Sinai.
65 For the Lord had said of them, "They
shall surely die in the wilderness." And not a
man was left of them, except Caleb the son of
Jephunneh and Joshua the son of Nun.
A Law of Inheritance
27 Then the daughters of Zelophehad, the
son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the
son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the
families of Manasseh the son of Joseph, came
near; and these are the names of his daughters:
Mahlah, Noah and Hoglah and Milcah and Tirzah.
2 They stood before Moses and before Eleazar
the priest and before the leaders and all the
congregation, at the doorway of the tent of
meeting, saying,
3 "Our father died in the wilderness, yet he
was not among the company of those who gathered
themselves together against the Lord in
the company of Korah; but he died in his own
sin, and he had no sons.
4 "Why should the name of our father be
withdrawn from among his family because he
had no son? Give us a possession among our
father's brothers."
5 So Moses brought their case before the
Lord.
6 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
7 "The daughters of Zelophehad are right intheir statements. You shall surely give them a
hereditary possession among their father's
brothers, and you shall transfer the inheritance
of their father to them.
8 "Further, you shall speak to the sons of
Israel, saying, 'If a man dies and has no son,
then you shall transfer his inheritance to his
daughter.
9 'If he has no daughter, then you shall give
his inheritance to his brothers.
10 'If he has no brothers, then you shall give
his inheritance to his father's brothers.
11 'If his father has no brothers, then you
shall give his inheritance to his nearest relative
in his own family, and he shall possess it; and
it shall be a statutory ordinance to the sons of
Israel, just as the Lord commanded Moses.'"
12 Then the Lord said to Moses, "Go up
to this mountain of Abarim, and see the land
which I have given to the sons of Israel.
13 "When you have seen it, you too will be
gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother
was;
14 for in the wilderness of Zin, during the
strife of the congregation, you rebelled against
My command to treat Me as holy before their
eyes at the water." (These are the waters of
Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)
Joshua to Succeed Moses
15 Then Moses spoke to the Lord, saying, 16 "May the Lord, the God of the spirits of all
flesh, appoint a man over the congregation,
17 who will go out and come in before them,
and who will lead them out and bring them in,
so that the congregation of the Lord will not be
like sheep which have no shepherd."
18 So the Lord said to Moses, "Take Joshua
the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit,
and lay your hand on him;
19 and have him stand before Eleazar the
priest and before all the congregation, and commission
him in their sight.
20 "You shall put some of your authority on
him, in order that all the congregation of the
sons of Israel may obey him.
21 "Moreover, he shall stand before Eleazar
the priest, who shall inquire for him by the
judgment of the Urim before the Lord. At his
command they shall go out and at his command
they shall come in, both he and the sons of
Israel with him, even all the congregation."
22 Moses did just as the Lord commanded
him; and he took Joshua and set him before
Eleazar the priest and before all the congregation.
23 Then he laid his hands on him and commissioned
him, just as the Lord had spoken
through Moses.
Laws for Offerings
28 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
2 "Command the sons of Israel and say
to them, 'You shall be careful to present My
offering, My food for My offerings by fire, of a
soothing aroma to Me, at their appointed time.'
3 "You shall say to them, 'This is the offering
by fire which you shall offer to the Lord: two
male lambs one year old without defect as a
continual burnt offering every day.
4 'You shall offer the one lamb in the morning
and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight;
5 also a tenth of an ephah of fine flour for a
grain offering, mixed with a fourth of a hin of
beaten oil.
6 'It is a continual burnt offering which was
ordained in Mount Sinai as a soothing aroma,
an offering by fire to the Lord.
7 'Then the drink offering with it shall be a
fourth of a hin for each lamb, in the holy place
you shall pour out a drink offering of strong
drink to the Lord.

The Proverbs
The Usefulness of Proverbs
1 The proverbs of Solomon the son of David,
king of Israel:
2 To know wisdom and instruction, To discern the sayings of
understanding,3 To receive instruction in wise
behavior, Righteousness, justice and equity;4 To give prudence to the naive, To the youth knowledge and
discretion,5 A wise man will hear and increase in
learning, And a man of understanding will
acquire wise counsel,6 To understand a proverb and a figure, The words of the wise and their
riddles.
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning
of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
The Enticement of Sinners
8 Hear, my son, your father's
instruction
And do not forsake your mother's
teaching;9 Indeed, they are a graceful wreath to
your head
And ornaments about your neck.
10 My son, if sinners entice you, Do not consent.
11 If they say, "Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us ambush the innocent without
cause;
12 Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, Even whole, as those who go down to
the pit;
13 We will find all kinds of precious
wealth, We will fill our houses with spoil;
14 Throw in your lot with us, We shall all have one purse,"
15 My son, do not walk in the way with
them.
Keep your feet from their path,
16 For their feet run to evil
And they hasten to shed blood.
17 Indeed, it is useless to spread the
baited net
In the sight of any bird;
18 But they lie in wait for their own
blood; They ambush their own lives.
19 So are the ways of everyone who gains
by violence; It takes away the life of its possessors.
Wisdom Warns
20 Wisdom shouts in the street, She lifts her voice in the square;
21 At the head of the noisy streets she
cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city
she utters her sayings:
22 "How long, O naive ones, will you love
being simple-minded? And scoffers delight themselves in
scoffing
And fools hate knowledge?
23 "Turn to my reproof, Behold, I will pour out my spirit on
you; I will make my words known to you.
24 "Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one
paid attention;
25 And you neglected all my counsel
And did not want my reproof;
26 I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes,
27 When your dread comes like a storm
And your calamity comes like a
whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon
you.
28 "Then they will call on me, but I will
not answer; They will seek me diligently but they
will not find me,
29 Because they hated knowledge
And did not choose the fear of the
Lord.
30 "They would not accept my counsel, They spurned all my reproof.
31 "So they shall eat of the fruit of their
own way
And be satiated with their own
devices.
32 "For the waywardness of the naive will
kill them, And the complacency of fools will
destroy them.
33 "But he who listens to me shall live
securely
And will be at ease from the dread of
evil."
The Pursuit of Wisdom Brings Security
2 My son, if you will receive my words
And treasure my commandments
within you,2 Make your ear attentive to wisdom, Incline your heart to understanding;3 For if you cry for discernment, Lift your voice for understanding;4 If you seek her as silver
And search for her as for hidden
treasures;5 Then you will discern the fear of the
Lord
And discover the knowledge of God.
6 For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and
understanding.
7 He stores up sound wisdom for the
upright; He is a shield to those who walk in
integrity,8 Guarding the paths of justice, And He preserves the way of His godly
ones.
9 Then you will discern righteousness
and justice
And equity and every good course.
10 For wisdom will enter your heart
And knowledge will be pleasant to
your soul;
11 Discretion will guard you, Understanding will watch over you,
12 To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse
things;
13 From those who leave the paths of
uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness;
14 Who delight in doing evil
And rejoice in the perversity of evil;
15 Whose paths are crooked, And who are devious in their ways;
16 To deliver you from the strange
woman, From the adulteress who flatters with
her words;
17 That leaves the companion of her
youth
And forgets the covenant of her God;
18 For her house sinks down to death
And her tracks lead to the dead;
19 None who go to her return again, Nor do they reach the paths of life.
20 So you will walk in the way of
good men
And keep to the paths of the righteous.

And forgets the covenant of her God;
18 For her house sinks down to death
And her tracks lead to the dead;
19 None who go to her return again, Nor do they reach the paths of life.
20 So you will walk in the way of
good men
And keep to the paths of the righteous.

45 Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family

46 The name of the daughter of Asher was
Serah.
47 These are the families of the sons of Asher
according to those who were numbered of

to their families; and those who were numbered
of them were 45,400.
51 These are those who were numbered of
the sons of Israel, 601,730.
52 Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying,
53 "Among these the land shall be divided for
an inheritance according to the number of
names.
54 "To the larger group you shall increase
their inheritance, and to the smaller group you
shall diminish their inheritance; each shall be
given their inheritance according to those who
were numbered of them.
55 "But the land shall be divided by lot. They
shall receive their inheritance according to the
names of the tribes of their fathers.
56 "According to the selection by lot, their
inheritance shall be divided between the larger
and the smaller groups."
57 These are those who were numbered of
the Levites according to their families: of Gershon,
the family of the Gershonites; of Kohath,
the family of the Kohathites; of Merari, the family
of the Merarites.
58 These are the families of Levi: the family
of the Libnites, the family of the Hebronites,
the family of the Mahlites, the family of the
Mushites, the family of the Korahites. Kohath
became the father of Amram.
59 The name of Amram's wife was Jochebed,
the daughter of Levi, who was born to Levi in
Egypt; and she bore to Amram: Aaron and Moses
and their sister Miriam.
13 "When you have seen it, you too will be
gathered to your people, as Aaron your brother
was;
14 for in the wilderness of Zin, during the
strife of the congregation, you rebelled against
My command to treat Me as holy before their
eyes at the water." (These are the waters of
Meribah of Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)
18 So the Lord said to Moses, "Take Joshua
the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit,
and lay your hand on him;
19 and have him stand before Eleazar the
priest and before all the congregation, and commission
him in their sight.
4 'You shall offer the one lamb in the morning
and the other lamb you shall offer at twilight;

11 If they say, "Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us ambush the innocent without
cause;
12 Let us swallow them alive like Sheol, Even whole, as those who go down to
the pit;
13 We will find all kinds of precious
wealth, We will fill our houses with spoil;
14 Throw in your lot with us, We shall all have one purse,"
15 My son, do not walk in the way with
them.
Keep your feet from their path,
16 For their feet run to evil
And they hasten to shed blood.
17 Indeed, it is useless to spread the
baited net
In the sight of any bird;
18 But they lie in wait for their own
blood; They ambush their own lives.
19 So are the ways of everyone who gains
by violence; It takes away the life of its possessors.
Wisdom Warns
20 Wisdom shouts in the street, She lifts her voice in the square;
24 "Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one
paid attention;
25 And you neglected all my counsel
And did not want my reproof;
And knowledge will be pleasant to
your soul;
11 Discretion will guard you, Understanding will watch over you,
12 To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse
things;
13 From those who leave the paths of
uprightness
To walk in the ways of darkness;
14 Who delight in doing evil
And rejoice in the perversity of evil;
15 Whose paths are crooked, And who are devious in their ways;
16 To deliver you from the strange
woman, From the adulteress who flatters with
her words;
17 That leaves the companion of her
youth
And forgets the covenant of her God;
18 For her house sinks down to death
And her tracks lead to the dead;
19 None who go to her return again, Nor do they reach the paths of life.
20 So you will walk in the way of
good men
And keep to the paths of the righteous.
