FAQs

Q. What is an Adobe® ID, and why do I need it?

A. Some digital content contains digital rights management (DRM) protection that prevents the items from being shared with others. Your Adobe® ID will "authorize" your purchases, so they can be read on your computer or device. The Adobe® ID is free and easy to get (click here to create an Adobe® ID now). In order to read eBooks purchased from our site you must either download the Adobe® Digital Editions program, or use an Adobe® Digital Editions compatible application (we recommend the Bluefire reader) on your handheld device. In order to activate either of these, you must have an Adobe® ID.

Adobe® Digital editions

What is Adobe® Digital Editions?

Adobe® Digital Editions software offers an engaging way to view and manage eBooks and other digital publications. Use it to download and purchase digital content, which can be read both online and offline. Transfer copy-protected eBooks from your personal computer to other computers or devices. Organize your eBooks into a custom library and annotate pages.

Why do I need Adobe® Digital Editions?

Some digital publications that you purchase online or check out from a library may contain digital rights management (DRM) protection that restricts the items from being shared with others. In the past, this could limit the ability to read your items on additional computers owned by you. It could even prevent you from moving your items when you bought a new computer.

Digital Editions helps ensure that your eBooks and other digital publications are not "locked" on one computer — they are assigned to you through your Adobe® ID.

What does it mean to authorize my computer with my Adobe® ID?

Authorizing your computer with your Adobe® ID will allow you to move your eBooks between multiple computers and devices that are authorized with the same ID. If you do not authorize your computer, you will not be able to transfer your eBooks to another machine or device.

Do I need to download Adobe® Digital Editions and authorize my computer every time I buy an eBook from you?

No you do not. This is a one-time download and activation. If you wanted to use another computer, you would need to download Adobe® Digital Editions and activate it on that machine with the same ID as your others computers.

How do I authorize my computer to use Adobe® Digital Editions?

The first time you run Digital Editions, you are prompted to authorize the application by entering an Adobe® ID. If you don't have an Adobe® ID, you are provided with a link to get one. Then, when you purchase an item online or borrow one from a library with Digital Editions, the item is automatically "tied" to your Adobe® ID, rather than your computer. This way, you are free to move your items to up to six computers and six devices that have been authorized with Digital Editions.

Blue Fire App

Q. If I already have a different eBook reader on my device can I use that?

A. Yes, if your reader will allow you to move files into it from other sources, and if it will read encrypted eBook files.

Q. How do I get my downloaded books into my Bluefire Reader on my iPhone or iPad?

  • Step 1: You must authorize your Bluefire Reader with the same Adobe® ID that you used to authorize your other computer/device. When Bluefire Reader launches for the first time, it asks if you'd like to authorize the application. Authorization is a simple process where you're asked to enter an Adobe® ID and password so that your copy of Bluefire Reader is able to read Adobe® eBooks. If you don't remember your Adobe® username, open Adobe® Digital Editions and go to Library -> Authorize Computer. The popup screen will tell you what username the computer is authorized to:
