Amy Carmichael (1867-1951), missionary to India, founded the Dohnavur Fellowship to rescue children from lives of neglect and poor treatment. Born into a strong Presbyterian family in Ireland, Carmichael chose to become ôdead to the world and its applause, to all its customs, fashions, and lawsö when she entered missionary service. In India, she would serve 56 years without a furlough, taking the love of Christ to many the world considered unlovely. Her life is an example of abandonment to God, characterized by total commitment, obedience and selflessness.
