Clive Staples Lewis was born in Belfast, Ireland (now Northern Ireland) in1898. In early adulthood, Lewis attended prestigious Oxford University and then volunteered for active duty during WWI. After the war ended he went back to Oxford and graduated with high honors. He taught at Magdalen College in Oxford for 29 years and later in Cambridge for eight years.
In addition to teaching, Lewis started to publish books. His major contributions in literary criticism, children's literature, fantasy literature and popular theology brought him international renown and acclaim. He was one of the intellectual giants of the 20th century and arguably the most influential Christian writer of his day. His most distinguished and popular accomplishments include The Chronicles of Narnia, Out of the Silent Planet, The Four Loves, The Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity.
