The Translation Used For THE WATCHWORD BIBLE®
The American Bible Society created the translation we use, The Contemporary English Bible. (Also see http://www.gospelcom.net/yob/yob_cev.shtml.) We chose the Contemporary English Version (CEV) as the first translation in our productions for a number of practical reasons.The CEV is an Easy to Understand Translation for Children & Adults
First, the CEV is a clear, introductory modern translation that's easy for both children and adults to understand. This is appropriate for a wide range of reading skills and for people speaking or learning English as a second language. This last consideration is particularly important as English has become the modern world language for business and news. Many people around the world are eager today to learn English. As an introductory translation, it is well-suited for helping to overcome the problem of growing biblically illiteracy in English speaking countries.
The Perfect Translation for a Video Bible Presentation
Second, the CEV was translated not only to be read in print, but to be read aloud, too, because American Bible Society research showed that nearly 50% of the people who have any contact at all with the scriptures only "hear" them read aloud by others. This auditory aspect was very important for THE WATCHWORD BIBLE because it is both read and heard.
It is Used by a Broad Number of Christians
Third, the CEV is being used by Protestants, Catholics (it has a Catholic Imprimatur), and Orthodox churches, for the greatest possible reach.
The Arabic Translation for THE WATCHWORD BIBLE
Currently, an Arabic language production of THE WATCHWORD BIBLE New Testament is underway using Today's Arabic Version (TAV) translation. Our goal in the future is to produce additional versions in the major languages of the world.

Additional English language versions are planned for THE WATCHWORD BIBLE, and, Lord willing, the Old Testament beginning with Psalms.
